Instructions for obtaining files:
cd "subdirectory"          <example: cd BIRS>
get file                   <example: get read_1st.doc>
bye

That will end the session with the FTP. Now is the appropriate
time to view the "readme" type file on your own operating
system (ie, out of FTP, since FTP does not allow viewing). From
the "readme" file, you can gather enough information to re-enter
FTP and grab more files. Good luck.

NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE: STANDARD SUBSETS, CRUISE TRACKS, AND SUMMARY FILES
========================================================================

               NO CHARGE, EVEN (can you believe it?)
               =====================================

     One may now obtain data sets directly from the Anonymous FTP area.
First obtain the inventory lists from subdirectory INVNTORY or the
BIRS software. From the inventory list or output of BIRS, use the
SAC_ID to identify desired cruises. Then go to the DATABASE subdirectory
and grab files as desired. The file naming convention is as follows:

Root name: SAC_ID, e.g. 00234
Extension: .sub         standard subset
           .cru         cruise track
           .bft         block footer (cruise summary)

for example, cruise 00005 will have files 00005.sub, 00005.cru, 00005.bft.

For format descriptions, go to subdirectory GEN_DOC and grab files:
cru_trk.doc (cruise track) and std_sub.doc (standard subset).

OUT OF COURTESY, PLEASE EMAIL ME AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GRABBED, THANKS.
