ORGANIZATION LAYOUT FOR MANAGING SHIPBOARD ADCP BY THE NODC/SAC A system for organizing the shipboard ADCP global data set on unix-based workstations for the data center level has been created. The system utilizes a directory tree for file storage and employs a simple C-language program for data base access. The unix/workstation environment provides the framework for the organization. Only the CODAS block files of the densely sampled data sets will require external storage media. The directory names will be of MS-DOS convention; that is, the names will limited to 8 bytes. This will allow easy transfer to the PC environments. The layout is as follows. DIRECTORY TREE ORGANIZATION =========================== /sac /refs /utils /bin /cnt /src /bckup /shipname.ctr /year /00001 . \ 00001999.blk --> 00001.sub 00001.bft 00001.def
