The NODC provides shipboard ADCP data in two formats: 1) a high-density set (~10 Mbytes/month-long cruise) in CODAS binary format consisting of currents and ancillary parameters at the sampling interval with which the data were recorded and processed and 2) an ASCII standard subset (~500 Kbytes per cruise-month) of absolute currents at hourly and 10 m intervals. If absolute currents are not available due to lack of navigation, then relative currents are provided. The standard subset includes the hourly means and standard deviations of ship velocity components and the transducer temperature. Also available in ASCII form are cruise tracks and cruise summary files which describe instrumentation, cruise activities and significant events, and the processing, calibration, and navigation steps. For requests of the high-density data set, please provide the type of machine on which the data will be loaded. If the CODAS is compatible with the user's host machine, then the CODAS block files, software, and extraction manual will be delivered. If CODAS has not been adapted yet for the user's machine, then an ASCII dump of the block files can be provided. Requests can be handled through electronic or paper mail. An anonymous ftp (kapau.soest.hawaii.edu, cd /pub/adcp) account is available at the SAC for Internet users. Questions, comments, data submissions, data requests, and CODAS software and manual requests should be directed to: Mr. Patrick Caldwell NODC Hawaii Liaison Officer Shipboard ADCP Center Dept. of Oceanography University of Hawaii, MSB 317 Honolulu, Hawaii 96822 USA Internet: caldwell@soest.hawaii.edu fax: 808-956-4104 office phone: 808-956-4105
