HOT-240 Optics Readme file by: Dan Sadler 3/21/12 Installed newly refurbished DH4. Installed new battery core. Tested with pumps in bucket of water to simulate cast. System operated for two back to back "casts" of 1 hour each. Checked that files were saved. Everything checked out. Tested all pumps in water with and without filters. The filtered test simulated actual operating conditions by drawing water through 2 filters at the same time using a "Y" tubing connector. Both flow rate and current (amps) were measured at 12.0 V. Pump Serial# Speed Flow with Filters Flow w/o Filters 1 053661 2.0K 0.73 lpm (0.11 A) 6 lpm (0.22 A) 2 051988 2.0K 0.23 lpm (0.11 A) 6 lpm (0.21 A) 3 054485 3.0K 2.31 lpm (0.24 A) 10 lpm (0.68 A) 4 051614 3.0K 1.37 lpm (0.25 A) 10 lpm (0.67 A) 5 051980 3.0K 1.72 lpm (0.22 A) 9 lpm (0.68 A) 6 051234 4.5K 3.42 lpm (0.61 A) 9 lpm (0.61 A) I also checked to see if each pump could recover from cavitation induced by covering the pump inlet with my finger. All pumps started pumping again except pump 6 which was spinning at 4.5K. It looks like it spins too fast to recover. I think it is a good idea to deploy pumps that can recover from cavitation in case they don't get fully primed before the pumps turn on. Based on this testing, pumps 3 and 5 for selected for deployment and installed on the optics cage. Another simulated cast with pumps 3 and 5 in water was successful. 3/22/12 Repaired power cable to FRRF deck box. 3/24/12 Cleaned AC-9/AC-S Windows Calibrated AC-S : - files: acs_032412_air.dat, acs_032412_23_9.dat A659.0 : 0.003 A567.6 : 0.002 A480.3 : 0.000 C662.4 : 0.030 C570.7 : 0.032 C479.0 : 0.012 Calibrated AC-9 : - file: ac9_032412_air.dat, ac9_032412_24_0.dat 3/23/12 Calibrated FL3 - h240eco1.raw Checked DH4 - Cleared memory - Time OK - charging Reconnected LISST battery - 8.06 V Calibrated LISST - Batt = 8.04V - h240cal1.asc - start and stop on mechanical switch - time OK Checked FRRF - Reformatted flash memory - set time - charging 03/26/12 FRRF/DH4/LISST cast - in:0214, down:020, up:0240, out:0304 (filters on AC9/ACS) - in:0310, down:0325, up:0344, out:0410 (filters on AC9) - depth : ~ 190m - rate : 10 m/min down/up - weather : night, 17 knot winds, 10' swells - location : 22 44.050 N, 158 02.444 W - DH4 blinking at surface on first cast, not sure if blinking at end of cast. - Package broke surface at beginning of second cast so put back to 10m - Not sure if blinking at surface at start of second cast. - DH4 not blinking after second cast. - Only one file recorded and it was small indicating the DH4 shut off during the cast. - files : pro1h240.bin, pro2h240.bin, run.000(from first cast), LISST files still on unit - Deck tested for 55 minutes and recorded a good file (prof 002) - Noticed that pump 5 cut out intermittently when cable was flexed near connector. - Replaced pump 5 with pump 4. - Added 2nd battery with Y-cable - Deck test successful. - Charged both batteries. Got 1 DH4 file off, but kept crashing after that. - Attempted LISST download, unsuccessful. Reported error with "battery, cable or serial connection" - Disconnected LISST batterhy 3/27/12 - DH4 Download successful - LISST download still reporting error. 3/28/12 - FRRF download successful - LISST still having problems. Tried different batter core, power supply and multiple serial-usb converters to no avail. - LISST files all appear ok on the LISST directory so no reason to think the LISST didn't work.
